 - Multiplication Rock

  • Bob Dorough

    Multiplication Rock LP (1973)

    Capitol Records

First installment of soundtrack recordings to the wildly popular ABC animated educational series Schoolhouse Rock which attempted to marry boring grade school curriculum with cartoons and catchy "rock" music.  Cool jazz guru Bob Dorough was recruited to deliver the segment on math, capturing the imaginations of children of the 1970s glued to their Saturday morning cartoons. While this stands up in its own right as a groovy slice of American cartoon culture, it graduated to cult classic status after hip hop heroes De La Soul sampled "Three is the Magic Number" for their acclaimed Three Feet High and Rising album.
