Azymuth - Azimüth

  • Azymuth

    Azimüth LP (1975)

    Som Livre

Brazil's Azymuth are considered one of the best selling jazz fusion groups of its 70s / 80s hey day (sorry Spyro Gyra).  The group had humble beginnings releasing and producing their own funky brand of native Brazilian Bossa and Samba.  On their 1975 official debut Azimüth, their sound got serious leaning more towards jazz funk fusion with just enough indigenous music for it to be flagged as Sao Paulo.  I would consider this recording the quintessential jazz funk fusion sound with tasteful use of synths and electric piano; dry, open beats; doubled, sugary vocals; and seductive funky bass that is "ear delicious".  Check out tunes like "Linha Do Horizonte", "Man Ha," and "Melo Dos Dois Bicudos," to see what I mean.
