Controller 7 is one of our mainstay forum regulars who has a knack for funky hip hop productions. Hip Hop mixes were never our thing on the Strut because where do you draw the line? We are not Worldstarhiphop. BUT, this mix was enough for us to make that exception. Lots of Bay area goodness for those that know.

Here’s a taste of late 90s crate digging from Seattle mainstays and resident Strutters Mr. Supreme and Jake One aka The Conmen. You know the deal, loads of breaks and beats extracted from old records.
old school / disco breaks + / megamix

Charlie B. Wilder aka Captain Planet is another Soul Strut alumni who went on to do bigger things. In 2012, he submitted this tasty mix to Soul Strut.
Went back to my roots on this one, including the format- released on cassette tape only. This 45min mix is a collection of pretty obscure tracks from around the world, recorded from vinyl, chopped and re-arranged, and laced with my own production touches. There’s also some snippets of field recordings I’ve made while travelling. I left the names of sampled artists undisclosed, because I feel like in the era of shazam, people need to be encouraged to dig more. If you think you recognize a few of the original recordings used in here, then you could win a one-of-a-kind hand-painted boombox.
1. Bouyouye
2. Yallahs
3. Bokazo
4. Naguabo
5. Urubamba
6. Gaziantep
7. Paracatu
8. Goyang
9. Poggetto
10. Lamentin
11. Chegutu
This Norwegian DJ brings forth an all soul 45 mix to fight the winter blues.

Big Stacks mixed up 48 minutes or so worth of delicious psych rock (with some prog rock woven in too) for your listening pleasure! Hosted on Mixcloud ‘cause Soundcloud’s copyright fuzz can suck it.

Mainstay strutter / digger / collector / drunken DJ Big Stacks posted this gem in 2011.
“Vibing on Navan cognac and feeling alright on a Friday night, I put together nearly 57 minutes of soul and funk music for your listening pleasure. Enjoy!!!”
This mix contains the joints I played during my lead-off set for the NJ-NY-PA Soul Strut Spin Party wifey and I hosted last night. It contains just under 58 minutes of soul, boogie, and jazz music in attempt to get the party started for Raj, Garcia Vega, Otis Funkmeyer, and TripleDouble to bring the heatrocks. For those of you who couldn’t make it, I hope you enjoy the tunes. Peace!!!

Toronto’s Beatdawg was infamous in the golden age of eBay for selling a massive collection of 70s Library music LPs. He coined terms like “Evil Loops” and “Ill Breaks!” . Buzz words that got hip hop producers aroused and compelled to bid up these rare records like mold crazed zombies. Thankfully, for the poor folk, he made a CD of the best grooves and breaks.
