  • Bobby Hutcherson

    Montara LP (1975)

    Blue Note

Vibes guru Bobby Hutcherson had a surprisingly long stint with the famed Blue Note Records label ranging from the mid 60s all the way until 1980.  Ask any hard core jazz lover what their favorite Blue Note era Hutcherson release was and yoou'd be suprised to hear it's this album from 1975!  Montara is an ear delicious latin jazz infused ode to his Bay Area hometown with the title track being the point of interest  It's a laid back, cooled-out soundtrack indicative of the mellow 70s that was later sampled by Madlib.  The album isn't all smooth, though, tracks like "(Se Acabo) La Malanga" and "Yuyo" channel the energy of Fania salsa that flourished at the time. All and all, Montara is a must for jazz and lation lovers alike.
